A few months ago actor Ingo Rademacher (of “General Hospital” fame) named his newborn son Peanut Kai. At first I thought it was a joke, but a few weeks ago he did an interview with Soap Opera Digest and admitted that Peanut is the boy’s actual name and that he and his wife simply decided that rather than give their son a nickname of “Peanut,” they would make his legal name “Peanut.” Here I thought Apple, Zuma, Sunday, and Suri were unique names. Then again, Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz named their son Bronx Mowgli and Nicholas Cage named his son Kal-El, so perhaps Peanut is not so bad after all.

Let’s not forget the Demi Moore/Bruce Willis clan: Rumer, Scout LaRue, and Tallulah Belle. Maybe it’s because actors and celebs are generally creative people who like attention? Perhaps more the attention thing than the creativity, right? I guess it’s not just celebrities that do this though - Sarah Palin’s kids have some pretty different names, and no one had even heard of her outside of Alaska until last year. Just think what’s in the pipe though, once these kids grow up and have children of their own! Will they come up with even odder names? |

So true about the Palin’s. Stars are not the only ones who have gone wild with baby names. There’s the couple who named their son ESPN and the parents who lost custody of their daughter after naming her Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii. She was made a ward of the court so that her name could be legally changed. |

Whether you are a celebrity or not! Why would someone do that to a child? Or the adult he or she will become. Whether it is the school playground or a job application, your name affects your life—good and bad. What is wrong with these parents! Peanut!!!! For a boy!!! |

“Man Vs. Wild” host Bear Grylls just named his baby Huckleberry… and Lisa Bonet named her baby boy Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa. Oh my! That’s beyond a mouthful - hopefully the kid will have a nickname! |

Country singer Brad Paisley and his actress wife Kimberly Williams-Paisley named their young son William Huckleberry Paisley, after Huckleberry Finn. Brad said he wanted to name his child after someone whose spirit of adventure, he hoped his son would embody. I wonder if Bear named his son Huck for the same reason? |

Wow, Lisa Bonet’s kid is really going to struggle with learning how to spell his name! There were some kids in my son’s kindergarten class who had a real problem with getting the hang of getting the letters in the right order in their own names. Kind of sad, really. Of course then we have the couple who made headlines recently by naming their son “Adolf Hitler.” Regardless of their beliefs, that’s just wrong. That poor kid. The situation was brought to the attention of authorities when they tried to get the kid’s birthday cake personalized and the baker refused to do it. |

That Adolf Hitler story is so sad. I read that the boy and his younger siblings JoyceLynn Aryan Nation and Honszlynn Hinler were removed from the home by police and placed in protected custody. The kicker is that the dad then lied to the media when approached about losing cusotdy of the kids. Then, again, I suppose that shouldn’t come as that big of a surprise. Regardless, it’s a sad commentary on the state of some parent’s decision making skills. Nothing like abusing the right to name your own child. |

Oh, I kind of like Robert Rodriguez’s sons’ names. Very cool names. What do you think of the name Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck chose for their new daughter: Seraphina Rose Elizabeth Affleck. I wonder if they are going to call her Sera for short? Also, I still don’t get why some celebs give their children multiple middle names. Unless someone asks for the child’s full name, how will they be able to put to use all their given names? |

In some cultures, more than one middle name is pretty common. I know for me, having a hyphenated first name, Sue-Lynn and then a middle name has been a bit of an annoyance because people often assume Lynn in my middle name, so I can’t imagine people with multiple middle names. I heard a doozy today, Gossip Girl’s Kelly Rutherford, who plays Lily Van Der Wooodsen, named her child Hermes, you know, like the design house best know for its overpriced scarves (400 for a scarf? Puh-leeze!) and accessories. and pronounced the same…er-mez. I wonder what name she will bestow on her soon-to-be-born second child? Hmmmm, let’s see..Gucci? Balenciaga? Prada? Fendi? Dolce? Gabbana? I’m just sayin’ |

I think the absolute worst on this list is Moxie Crime Fighter. What on earth does this mean? It sounds like a superhero! Celebrities aside, baby names have become stranger and stranger. I favor classic and timeless names and wish the competition to create an odd or creative name (to a certain degree) would cease! |

I agree with you Jodie. It does seem as though some celebs try to outdo one another in the baby naming department—typically at the expense of their children. Sue Lynn, I just read that Kelly Rutherford is having a girl, so any of the names you listed would probably fit well. Though, at this point in her nasty divorce and subsequent custody dispute I figure she cares less about the baby’s first name and is concentrating more on not allowing her estranged hubby to give the kid his last name. You think? |

I just read that Brooke Burke (from E! and “Dancing with the Stars” fame) is thinking about adding to her brood. She has four children Neriah, 8, and Sierra Sky, 6, from her first husband and 2-year-old Heaven Rain and 10-month-old Shaya Braven with her fiancé David Charvet. Unique names. I wonder what she’ll name the next one. |

Okay, here’s another: Erykah Badu (real name Erica Wright) and her boyfriend, rapper Jay Electronica (real name Je’Ri Allah) welcomed their first child together two days ago and named the girl—Twitty Milk. Erykah also has an 11-year-old son, Seven Sirius, from a previous relationship with Outkast’s Andre 3000 (real name Andre Benjamin) and 4-year-old daughter, Puma Rose, from a previous relationship with rapper The D.O.C. (real name Tracy Lynn Curry). Some fans speculate that she went with Twitty Milk because she informed fans via Twitter that her water broke and went on to give other birth details. Twitty Milk—come on! |

Erykah Badu just released a statement about the name she chose for her new daughter. Apparently, Twitty Milk is not the moniker she chose for her new baby, contrary to other reports. Instead, the baby’s name is Mars Merkaba. Erykah made the announcement on Twitter yesterday. Mars vs. Twitty?? I don’t know which one is more bizarre. What do you think? |
