Susan Boyle is an unemployed 47 year old woman in Great Britain who tried out for Britain’s Got Talent and became an overnight Internet sensation. I have to admit, I am now a major fan after watching this video: |

I saw this yesterday and absolutely amazing! It just goes to show you how people can so quickly judge others by their looks!! This woman looks fine to me, but even the judges had judged her before she started singing. I am so glad she is keeping her promise to her deceased mother by making something of herself. Good for you, Susan Boyle!!!! |

Seriously! I keep listening to it because the woman’s got an absolutely beautiful set of pipes. And honestly, looking at her? She’s not unattractive. She might have been a little ‘dowdy’ and not as ‘made up’ as some typical wanna be stars, but she was all heart—I hope she goes really far and I plan to keep track of her. Supposedly, videos of her performance have all received more than 2 million hits so far. |

When I first saw her video on YouTube I thought she was lip-synching, not because of her looks, but because the video seemed awkward. After seeing her on Larry King last night she appears to be the real deal. Congrats to her! What I find interesting is that with all the press she’s getting, I don’t think she really needs to win the contest. I wonder what the other contestants think now?? Is it really worth going on with the show when Boyle seems to be such a clear cut winner? |

She is amazing. Nice to see someone with genuine talent - not pre-packaged, manufactured “talent” - getting their due. |

Apparently she made a track on a charity CD in 1999 that media found and she sings as beautifully on that as she did on the show. I hope some smart guy makes some singles and releases them with her voice. |

I love her voice; but I particularly enjoy her attitude. When Larry King asked her if she has plans to change her looks now that she’s been discovered, she quickly told him that she wasn’t going to change - that this is who she is. You go girl. |

Watching this video brought tears to my eyes. But, I agree with the other poster, she certainly isn’t unattractive, just dowdy! I hope she wins the competition. Keeping my fingers crossed! |

What the Internet giveth, the cynics soon taketh away. Now people are saying that Susan Boyle is a fraud and a scam pulled by Simon Cowell. You know—I honestly don’t care. It doesn’t change how beautiful that moment was when she sang. |

It always seems that one someone does well on one of Simon’s shows, the media tries to find a way to say it is a scam. This morning, on the radio, I heard one of the DJs say that people are saying that Simon planted Adam Lambert on the show because he’s too good. Then they started making guesses about his sexual orientation. For Pete can’t they look at him as a good singer? Donna |

I think it’s a psychological reaction to jealousy. It took courage for Susan Boyle to go on Britain’s Got Talent, to stand up in front of all those people and just be herself, then blow them all away with her magical voice. People are jealous of that kind of courage and talent. It’s easier to tear down someone like that and point fingers—it makes people feel better about themselves. Sad. But true. |

Oh no, say it isn’t so ... she got a mini makeover. I hope it was her idea and not a contract condition of a future music deal. |

She did get a mini-makeover. While she publicly stated she wouldn’t “go under the knife,” she did get new glasses, hairstyle and clothing.. She got a facial and her eyebrows waxed. She looks nice now, but the whole publicity behind her appearance on the show—the mockery and laughter was because of her appearance.. they were stunned when they saw that this average-looking woman could sing. |

Getting our haircut, eyebrows waxed and such things aren’t really a make-over. I’ve never had a makeover but I do get my haircut every six weeks or so, and my hairstyle isn’t the same as it was last year at this time. Her looks have become part of what the media has latched on to which just goes to show you what their focus is. That’s silly when you step back from the hoopla because it wasn’t her looks that brought her world-wide attention. It was her voice! Donna |

I am so sick of how much attention is focused on her looks. So she isn’t a gorgeous super-model, so what? She’s super talented and very humble…very refreshing in the entertainment biz. What really bugs me is when people start using words like “frumpy” and “homely”. How must that feel for Susan Boyle to hear that? Here she’s accomplished this great thing in her life and the majority of stories run on her are about her looks. It’s a catch-22 though because the entertainment industry is ALL about image and looks…what can you do right? |

You are so right, Sue Lynn. Think about it. First she reads about how frumpy and dowdy she is all over the place and if she decides to do anything like get a different hair style the media will be there to point a finger because she said she wasn’t going to change. Everything is always carried to an extreme and personally, I don’t know how people in the lime light deal with it. Donna |
