Slumdog Kids in Truancy Trouble

After filming the Oscar winning film, Danny Boyle and Christian Colson (pictured above) set up trust funds for the two youngest actors in Slumdog Millionaire to help them and their families move out of the impoverished slums of Mumbai. The trust funds also included a monthly stipend for the young Azhar and Rubina as long as they stayed in school. Now the Slumdog kids are in truancy trouble as news of their ridiculously poor attendances records reaches Boyle and Colson.

It turns out that the kids have only been attending school less than 50 percent of the time. Rubina’s rate is about 27 percent while Azhar isn’t doing much better at 37 percent. Their parents attribute them missing so much class to their busy travel schedules. Azhar’s father recently passed away and his mother has said that the young boy has been inconsolable. Boyle and Colson have expressed extreme disappointment and have strongly urged the families to make sure the children attend classes. If Azhar and Rubina fail to graduate from high school all together, they stand to lose their entire trust.
