Whoopi Goldberg Tapped as The View's New Co host
From LoveToKnow Celebrity
Whoopi Goldberg is once again making the move to daytime television. The actress/comedienne was chosen August 1, 2007 to replace Rosie O'Donnell on the hit daytime talk show, The View.
Why Whoopi?
Goldberg, 51, is an Academy Award-winning actress who is only one of seven African-American actresses to receive the Best Actress nod. She has starred in dozens of movies and television shows, and in 1992, was the host of The Whoopi Goldberg Show. So why Whoopi and why The View?
"I think Whoopi brings warmth," said Joy Behar, co-host of The View , to People magazine. "We know that she brings humor and talent, but she also brings warmth, and on television, people have to like you. She's very, very likable, and I'm thrilled to have her."
She's Not Rosie
Goldberg said she plans on just being herself, even though she is replacing Rosie O'Donnell, who was known for her verbal outbursts on the show.
"I've been Whoopi for [my whole life], and I don't have the same vibe that Rosie has," she says. "I do different kinds of things. Rosie is a great, great entertainer, she's very fun. Her shows are wonderful. I'm also great fun, and my shows are wonderful. So you know, it's 2007. This is the new start of The View."
Whoopi Goldberg will begin full-time on the show after Labor Day. She will join other co-hosts Barbara Walters, Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck.
