Whitney Houston Opts for Quickie Divorce
From LoveToKnow Celebrity
Apparently in a hurry to wrap up divorce proceedings, Whitney Houston has requested a quickie divorce from Bobby Brown. After a tumultuous history together, the singer is looking to end the marriage quickly.
Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown
Whitney Houston started her career rise as a popular singer during the 1980s. Bobby Brown started his singing career with New Edition in the 1980s, before moving on as a successful solo artist in the 80s and early 90s. The couple was married in June 1992 and suffered their fair share of ups and downs, including drug abuse, spousal abuse, and Brown’s multiple arrests.
Their Divorce
Houston and Brown had been married for 14 years, when Houston filed for divorce in October 2006. At the time of filing, she indicated that property would be divided later.
With her recent request to expedite the process, Houston asked the courts to provide her with a default judgment, since there are “no issues of division or community property.” Typically, divorce proceedings can drag on over dividing the assets of the marriage.
Lack of Assets
Recently, Houston risked losing her home in New Jersey after failing to make mortgage payments. Her Atlanta mansion had already been auctioned off after being lost to foreclosure. In response, Houston held a sale of her and Bobby’s belongings, nearly 400 items, to pay off some bills. Houston had commented that they were simply items she no longer needed.
Reality Series Curse
Many a celebrity marriage has ended in divorce after the couple was featured on a reality show. Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey, Dave Navarro and Carmen Electra, Britney Spears and Kevin Federline, and Travis Barker and Shanna Moakler all suffered the same fate. Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown chronicled their life on Being Bobby Brown, a reality series for the Bravo network.
