From LoveToKnow Celebrity

In the never-ending string of the rich and famous being arrested for driving under the influence, Velvet Revolver lead singer Scott Weiland adds his name to the ever-growing list.

Scott Weiland

Weiland's History

If the name Scott Weiland sounds familiar, but you can't quite place his face, he was once the lead singer of 90's grunge band Stone Temple Pilots. The band shot to fame with the release of their album Core. In 1998, Stone Temple Pilots disbanded and then briefly reunited in 1999 to release the album No. 4.

A Record of Abuse

It was while on tour in the early 1990's that Weiland had his first experience with heroin. He soon became addicted and began experimenting with other drugs. In 1995, the musician was arrested for purchasing crack-cocaine and was sentenced to 12-months probation. Over the years, Weiland was arrested multiple times for buying illegal drugs. Though the troubled singer attempted rehab many times, he ultimately failed to clean up his act after the crack-cocaine conviction.

In 1999 he overdosed on heroin and was sentenced to spend one year in jail. After his sentence was completed in 2000, Weiland was drug-free. That same year, he married his model girlfriend and the couple welcomed their first son, Noah, into the world.

A few years later, Weiland was asked to front Velvet Revolver.

New Band, New Life

Velvet Revolver released their first album Contraband in 2004. The album was met with critical acclaim and it was obvious the fans loved it, as the album sold over 1 million copies worldwide. Both his personal and professional life seemed to be headed in a positive direction with the birth of his second child, Lucy, and his band's number one album.

Trouble Follows

This recent DUI charge stems from a November 2007 car accident in Los Angeles in which officers at the scene claim that Weiland failed a field sobriety test. Weiland's management states that he submitted voluntarily to a Breathalyzer test and that the results do not indicate that the singer was intoxicated.
