Usher Fires Manager Mom

Singing sensation Usher decided he needs new management. The only problem? His current manager is also his mom.
Cleaning House
In a move that many a parent-managed celebrity has made, Usher is severing his professional ties with his mother, Jonnetta Patton, and keeping their relationship about family only. Additionally, the R&B star dropped his publicist, Simone Smalls.
Usher’s Engagement
Firing his mom isn’t the only big news in the Usher universe. He recently announced that he’s engaged to his longtime girlfriend, stylist Tameka Foster. This will be his first marriage, but the second time around for Foster.
Reason for the Split
Of course, rumors were swirling about exactly why Usher would release his mom from managerial duties. Many speculated that his new fiancée wanted to take on the role, but Usher has denied the gossip, telling the Associated Press, “She [Tameka] has no aspirations of becoming my manager or any other artist’s manager.” He also commented on a separation of family and business, saying, "At this time in my life, I am simply more interested in building the strength of my family. And in order to do that, I feel it's best to separate my business life from my personal life.”
Marriage and Music
Usher and Foster are busy planning their nuptials, but it’s anyone’s guess on when the wedding will take place. He told MTV News that it may happen later this year, however, he also plans to release a follow-up album to 2004’s Confessions by November 2007. All that, plus he has a couple of staff vacancies to fill.
