Tyra Banks Responds to Weight Gain Gossip
From LoveToKnow Celebrity
In the latest issue of People magazine, Tyra Banks is speaking out about the media's harsh reaction to her recent weight gain. The now retired model admits that she has gained thirty pounds, but maintains that she is content.
Ruthless Tabloids
Tyra Banks, who conceived the hit show America’s Next Top Model, a well as her own talk show, has been the subject of media scrutiny for her weight gain. Photos of Banks in a swimsuit showed that she had obviously gained weight since her Victoria’s Secret days. To make matters worse, headlines read “America’s Next Top Waddle” and “Tyra Porkchop.”
Tyra Banks' Body Confidence
Tyra responded to the ruthless tabloids with a statement about her own body confidence. No longer required to be model-thin for her profession, Banks now enjoys a "normal" body size and celebrates her curves. In an interview with People magazine, she explains how hurtful the tabloids have been and how their blow up of her gain is sending a negative message to young girls. She is very candid about her body, telling the magazine that she now weighs 161 pounds, up 30 pounds from when she modeled for Sport’s Illustrated in 1997. She commented, "I still feel hot, but every day is different.”
Sending Out a Positive Message
Tyra Banks wants the world to know that it’s alright to have a curvaceous body, appearing on the cover of People magazine in a bathing suit to illustrate her message. Her talk show echoes her image as a down-to-earth celebrity, as she publicly takes pride in her body image and encourages other women to do the same.
