The Flavor of Love 2's Like Dat

From LoveToKnow Celebrity

Flavor Flav! Fans of VH1’s The Flavor of Love know that call well. The first season of The Flavor of Love ended with our favorite clock wearing rapper Flav choosing down to earth girl Hoopz to be his lady, over drama queen New York. After the show, however, Hoopz lost interest, and Flav found himself alone again. That’s where Like Dat, real name Darra Boyd, enters the picture. VH1 and Flavor Flav decided to team up for a second season of The Flavor of Love, and Flav picked 20 new ladies to come and live with him, including Like Dat, in hopes of finding his true love.

Like Dat has now left the Flav mansion and recently sat down to answer a few questions for LTK Celebrity. She dishes on what it was like to get to know Flav, what she thinks about first season reject New York re-entering the competition, and what it was really like when Somethin´ failed to make it to the bathroom in time.

Why The Flavor of Love, and why Flavor Flav?

LTK Celebrity: Why did you want to go on The Flavor of Love? Have you always been a Flav fan?

Like Dat: I was always a fan of Flav. Loved him since I was a kid. One year, when I was in college at Syracuse, I went as Flav to a Halloween party.

I took a chance to go on the show when a bunch of my friends and I were watching last season and just joking around; we were saying that we could do a better job than the girls on the show. A friend of mine saw the casting call and sent it to me and then nagged me about it until I responded. I went to the call, and it was a rap. They gave me the contract right then and there.

LTK: Did the first series influence your impression of Flav? Was he like you expected him to be? Did your feelings about him change, either positively or negatively, after you spent some time with him?

LD: I always had a feeling that Flav was a funny brutha, but I didn't realize that he was as nice and kind as he was. He really is a nice and genuine person who appreciates everybody and everything that people have done for him!

The Other Women

The Flavor of Love has given us some of television’s biggest cat fights (Pumpkin and New York, anyone??), but Like Dat seemed to rise above all the petty bickering. How did she do it?

LTK: You seemed to get along with all the girls in the house better than anyone else. Why do you think that is?

LD: I did not go into that house trying to alienate myself from everybody. Good or bad, everyone always has some quality you will like. And really, there was no one there that I could not stand. Those who I had trouble with, knew I had it with them because of something they did, and they knew to stay away.

LTK: The one girl you did have some conflict with was Buckwild. How do you feel about her now? Do you think she was being herself, or do you think she wasn’t being real? What did you think of her decision to leave when New York re-entered the house?

LD: Let me set the record straight. I DID NOT have a conflict with Buckwild. We were friends then, and we are friends now. I asked her questions about who she was and how she was raised because I needed to know where she was coming from. We all have the right to be who we are, and we all have the right to question what a person puts out there. That's what I did. I always believe in the end, the truth will come out.

When Buckwild left, I felt that it could have been a good idea for her to leave. I knew all about her probation issues, and if I was her, I probably would have left too. New York has a way of pressing your buttons to the point that you become something else. So leave rather than stay and do something stupid? In the end, you are what's most important.

LTK: Speaking of New York, what do you think of her returning to the house?

LD: New York = drama. That's why she was back in the house. I'm only glad I left when she got there. I would not have held back on her at all.

LTK: Did you make any friends in the house you think you'll keep? Is there anyone you hope you never have to see again? And of course – who?

LD: I am pretty much cool with most of the girls. I really hope I never see Somethin again, she's rude obnoxious, loud and ignorant. And there's no show with that. Her silly behind is like that for real.

LTK: OK – Somethin. How shocked were you when she had her "accident"? I've of course seen her reaction on the show – but what did she say about it in private?

LD: I was shocked at first because we did not know what it was or who did it. When we saw her running up the stairs, everyone laughed, she was acting like a complete fool as soon as she stepped foot in the house. When that happened, all we said was...."you reap what you sew!"

Sharing Flav

LTK: Was it difficult for everyone to have to "share" Flav? How did you manage any feelings of jealousy you might have felt?

LD: Think of it this way; when you are single and trying to see what's out there, you are basically doing the same thing, dating a few men and seeing which one is the best for you. The thing that took a little getting used to was the fact that we were all in the house, but I don't let jealousy get to me, its stupid thing to have when you know there are other women that are going to be there with you. I was just happy to be chosen to get a chance to know Flav.

LTK: If you had to pick one of the other girls for Flav, who would you pick? Why?

LD: I would not have picked anyone but myself, and even though I left at the time that I did, I still would pick myself for him. I am self-sufficient, independent, loving and kind, aggressive, protective and completely social. All the things any man would want in a woman, and I can cook my ass off, too!

LTK: What was your favorite time with Flav?

LD: The gondola ride was the best time I had with him, I got a chance to sit down and talk with him on the real and make sure that he was right for me. Everyone always talks about -- if you are right for Flav -- but what about him for me. That as a great present and a good time, and I will never forget it!

Life after Flav

Like Dat's PR firm called Ladybug Inc.

Since being eliminated from the show, Like Dat has set up a public relations and event planning firm called Ladybug Inc. Follow the ladybug...

LTK: How has your life changed since The Flavor of Love? Has it created any new opportunities for you - and if so, what are they?

LD: Everyone in the neighborhood knows me now. The streets are full of kids who are always calling me "Hey Like Dat, we loved you!" It's nice, and I didn't realize how many people watched the show! It's hard to get to places sometimes because everyone is stopping you to say hi, but in the end everyone is very nice, and they just want to show me love!

LTK: Tell me about Ladybug. What are you working on now?

LD: LadyBug, Inc. is a PR & Marketing Boutique firm my partner Tamica Fields and I started after I came back from filming the show. She approached me with the idea to start the company, and I jumped on the opportunity immediately. We were colleagues for years as well as friends, so I knew a business relationship would be perfect! We work very hard with our clients, and have solid expertise, mine in Marketing and advertising, her's in Public Relations and Promotions. So it works out really well.

LTK: Where did you get the name Ladybug?

LD: The ladybug, is a small, cute iconic insect that represented pretty much what we wanted to present for our company, ladies with a buzz about what's going on around town. That's how we came up with the tagline "Follow the ladybug!"

LTK: Where can we expect to see you next?

LD: You really need to "Follow the LadyBug" to find out. You never know where you will see me, because I'm everywhere. If you catch the ladybug you will be OK!
