T.I. Recieves His Sentencing

Rapper T.I. received his sentencing on federal weapons charges.

The Charges

T.I. (born Clifford Joseph Harris, Jr.) was arrested in 2007 in Atlanta for the following slew of offenses:

Possession of unregistered machine guns
Possession of two silencers
Attempt to purchase illegal firearms (from a federal agent working undercover)

It just makes you want to take a deep breath and let out a big sigh doesn't it? Not the kind of "thank goodness he's in jail" sigh, but the "Why?" kind of sigh. Well, he was a self-admitted drug dealer before he became a multi-platinum selling hip hop artist. So, old habits and all.

Okay, in T.I.'s defense, he did say that the reason behind the illegal weapons purchase (he's already a convicted felon) was because he was afraid that after someone murdered a friend of his last year, they would attempt to come after him.

T.I. had been on house arrest since he was taken into custody in 2007. During this time, he was reportedly only allowed to leave his home for doctor's appointments and the only ones allowed to visit him were his girlfriend and children.

The Sentencing

A judge sentenced T.I. to one year and a day behind bars. Since his arrest though, he has done a lot of good. He's served nearly 1,000 hours of community service, mostly with children and has also worked with young kids, talking about the dangers of guns. On top of that, he has also made over 200 public appearances in connection with his community service.

At his sentencing, he apologized for his behavior, no lame excuses, no public relations spin, just a simple apology. The thing is, there is just something about T.I. that is just plain likable, let's hope, like his song says that the old him is "..dead and gone" because it does seem like after all of this, he could really be a positive influence in his community.
