T.I. Heads to Jail
From LoveToKnow Celebrity
Hip hop star T.I. heads to jail as he begins serving his 366-day sentence on a federal weapons charge.
A Refresher on the Charges
If you need a refresher, T.I. was busted in 2007 on a federal weapons charges that include possession of silencers, possession of machine guns and an attempt to purchase illegal guns from a person who turned out to be a federal agent working undercover.
The incident took place shortly after his friend was gunned down at an after party. Though he hasn't lived the cleanest life, T.I. admitted that after the incident, he was afraid that the people that shot his friend would come back for him.
While awaiting his trip to lock-up, he performed over 1,000 hours of community service as well as other public service announcements and speeches on the dangers of guns.
Reduced Sentence
Even though he said goodbye to a sold out crowd in Atlanta, telling his screaming fans "See y'all in 366 days," officials have confirmed that T.I. won't likely see that much jail time. No, this isn't another case of a Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan sentencing. T.I. has been on house arrest for the past 305 days and court officials plan on counting that time toward his sentence, meaning he'll serve about two months actual jail time, not including time reduced for good behavior.
After his release, the 28-year old rapper will remain on probation for three years.
