The outbreak of swine flu is certainly a serious matter, affecting people and industries across the globe. Reality TV is one of the latest sectors to experience difficulties as a direct result of swine flu. Though this might seem trivial, it's a small glimpse into the far-reaching effects this type of outbreak can cause.

The Hills stars Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, who were recently married, are currently in Mexico. Rumors had circulated claiming that this was to be their honeymoon, but they are actually in Mexico to oversee a musical video shoot. Speidi, as the couple is known to their fans, called in to Ryan Seacrest's radio show recently to share their experiences from Cabo San Lucas.

Pratt admitted that they're both wearing face masks all the time, and Montag added that they are washing their hands as often as possible. You can listen to the entire interview, which also includes the couples' thoughts on their wedding, at RyanSeacrest.com.

MTV's Real World Cancun

In a completely separate case, the cast and crew of MTV's Real World have just returned to the United States from Cancun, Mexico, where the show was taped. An employee of Bunim-Murray, the production company behind the series, recently commented on Twitter that all staff members are being asked to work at home for a week, just to be on the safe side.

Will Swine Flu Affect Other Shows?

It's impossible to guess how far and wide the swine flu outbreak will reach, but there is definitely the potential for the disease to affect other reality TV programs. If travel to and from affected areas is restricted, shows like Survivor and The Amazing Race, which both film on location and are due to begin taping new episodes in the coming months, could be temporarily sidelined.

More immediately, NBC's I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here is slated to air in June, and will film on location in Costa Rica. Interestingly, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt are both on the roster as contestants for this show.
