Steven Seagal New Orleans Lawman

Yes, forgotten action hero Steven Seagal has gotten the green light on his own reality show.

Apparently, Steven Seagal has been a deputy of the Jefferson Parrish sheriff's department for over 20 years. Not really sure how much actual policing he's done, you know, with all those straight to DVD movies he's been making in the past 20 years, but what does that have to do with anything when it comes to reality TV, right? Seagal is also a reported expert marksman, trained in SWAT (not sure if that's true) and has a black belt in Akido (probably true).

The new reality show – set to air in 2009, follows Seagal around as he does his best to fight crime in the city that has yet to return to its pre-Katrina glory. The show, titled Steven Seagal: Lawman is being touted as being similar to Dog the Bounty Hunter. Except, you know, Dog (Duane Chapman) has been an actual working bounty hunter for over 20 years. Minor details, minor details.

Obviously, Seagal and A&E executives think the solution to The Big Easy's problems is to bring in a "celebrity" to clean up the Parrish. You know, as opposed to holding events to raise much-needed funds to help rebuild the broken city. Nope, that's too "Brad Pitt" or "George Clooney", right?

No, the city doesn't need Pitt with his five million dollar donation and his huge housing project or Clooney with his various auctions and one million dollar donation to the city. Heck no, New Orleans needs Steven Seagal roaming the streets with a badge and a gun. Yep, that'll solve all its problems.

Seagal believes that the show is necessary to depict the "…passion and commitment of the Jefferson Parrish sheriff's office." Well, I bet those hard working men and women would love to have a pay raise and maybe some time off as a show of appreciation as opposed to a former action hero working with them. Just a thought.
