Singer Brandy Settles Lawsuit
From LoveToKnow Celebrity
Singer Brandy settled a lawsuit brought upon by the 2006 car accident in which the mother of two children died.
The Accident
In December of 2006, Brandy was driving her Land Rover along a California highway when she failed to notice the cars in front of her were coming to an abrupt halt. The singer hit her brakes, but it was too late and she slammed into the family's 1989 Toyota.
The impact caused the small car to turn sideways and go into the median, hitting a concrete divider. Once the car stopped, it was struck by another vehicle. Awatef Aboudihaj was taken to a local hospital and died the next day as a result from her injuries.
The accident ended up causing a four car pileup on the 405.
Police Investigation
Police investigated the accident and concluded that there was no evidence to suggest that the singer should be charged with vehicular manslaughter or any other crime. Brandy was not arrested and no chargers were brought against her.
Brandy, who has most recently worked with Kanye West, has made public statements stating that the accident "…changed her life forever."
The Lawsuit
The family of Awatef Aboudihaj brought on a $50 million wrongful death civil suit against Brandy, in which part of it was just settled in court. The children of Aboudihaj are to receive payments of $300,000 each. Marouane Hdidou, the father of the children and husband of Aboudihaj, was offered a reported $1.2 million settlement from the singer, but he rejected the offer.
