Simon Cowell Declines Presidential Invite
From LoveToKnow Celebrity
Simon Cowell declined a presidential invite to dine with Barack Obama and others.
Really, Simon?
It isn't that Cowell thinks that he's better than arguably the most powerful man in the world, he turned down the dinner invite claiming that his schedule was just too busy. Okay, maybe in his head, Cowell thinks that he's the most powerful man in the world, but really, if the President of the United States of America invites you to dinner, don't you shift around your schedule a bit in order to attend? Well, not Simon Cowell. It simply could not be done. What do you think he was doing? Buying more boring gray cashmere sweaters? A new gazillion dollar car?
In His Words
When making an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Leno asked him about turning down dinner with the President, to which Cowell replied "He wanted to have dinner and our diaries didn't quite match. We just didn't quite connect." By diary, we can assume he means schedule and not the junior high type with flowers and unicorns on the cover and the little lock and key that never work.
To this, Leno replied "What were you doing? Whitening your teeth? Fixing your hair?"
Why Simon?
Presidential dinner invites are so random that there really is no use in trying to make sense of it all. President Obama did say that being the president was "…a lot like American Idol, except everyone is Simon Cowell.
Maybe President Obama just wanted to meet the man and get Simon's opinion as to how he thinks he's performing in his first 100 days in office. You have to believe that Simon would be nothing but brutally honest with him, even if he is Barack Obama.
