Shelley Malil Arrested
From LoveToKnow Celebrity
Actor Shelley Malil was recently arrested on attempted murder charges.
From Sound Stage to Jail Cell
You probably remember Shelley Malil from his role as Haziz in the Steve Carell flick 40-Year Old Virgin, but he has also had roles in the television shows Scrubs, NYPD Blue and Without a Trace. The comedic actor was arrested in Oceanside, California and charged with the attempted murder of his girlfriend.
The Incident
The exact details of how this violent turn of events in the actor's life came about are a bit sketchy, but so far, reports read that Malil stopped by his girlfriend, Kendra Beebe's house to find her with another man. The girlfriend claims that she and Malil were no longer a couple at the time, but that point seems moot. Upon finding his girlfriend (or ex-girlfriend), Malil grabbed a kitchen knife and began stabbing her. The man she was with attempted to stop the actor and was himself stabbed in the hand.
A neighbor ran to the aid of the woman, attempting to stop the bleeding from the over 20 stab wounds inflicted upon her body and face by Malil. At this time, the actor had already fled the scene.
Four Charges, Possible Life Sentence
After his arrest, bail was set at $2 million. The San Diego District Attorney's office has charged Malil with attempted murder with special circumstances of premeditation causing great bodily injury and using a deadly weapon. The charges carry a maximum life sentence. Malil is scheduled to be arraigned on these charges on Wednesday, August 13, 2008.
