If you've turned on a television or radio in the last few years, chances are you've seen or heard Ryan Seacrest. Although he appears to be an "overnight success" and the breakout star of the new millenium, his success has actually been a long time coming.
Early Years
Ryan Seacrest was born in Dunwoody, Georgia, a small but wealthy suburb of Atlanta. Gary and Connie Seacrest provided a privileged life for Ryan and his sister Meredith.
Ryan caught the broadcasting bug when he was chosen to speak over his high school's public address system. He won an internship at WSTR/Star 94, a top radio station in Atlanta. Ryan's performance was so impressive that he was able to parlay that experience into a paying job as an on-air deejay. At the age of 16, he was one of Atlanta's youngest radio personalities.
Early Career
Seacrest was offered his first television show, ESPN's Radical Outdoor Challenge, while he was a freshman at the University of Georgia. Soon, he moved to Los Angeles, where broadcasting opportunities abound. Ryan's star continued to rise, and he hosted a wide variety of shows, including:
- The New Edge
- Ultimate Revenge
- Gladiators 2000
- Total Rush
- Click
- Wild Animal Games
American Idol
The real turning point for Ryan Seacrest came when he won a co-host position with American Idol in 2002. Ryan and Brian Dunkelman traded barbs and jokes during the entire first season of the talent show. The show was a huge success and so was Ryan Seacrest - when American Idol returned for its next season, Ryan Seacrest was the only host.
Recent Career
After the success of American Idol, Seacrest was suddenly everywhere. In January 2004, he launched his own television talk show, On Air With Ryan Seacrest. That same month, he became the host of the popular radio show, America's Top 40. Although On Air With Ryan Seacrest was soon cancelled, Seacrest was in demand as both a television host and a radio personality. In addition, Seacrest has proven to be a multi-faceted entrepreneur. His recent projects include:
- On Air With Ryan Seacrest (a radio show)
- Became executive producer and co-host of Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve
- Co-host for E! News Live
- Substitute host for Larry King Live
- Launching a clothing line, the R Line
Personal Life
Ryan's personal life has been the subject of much discussion, with some saying he is gay and others speculating that he is bisexual. While Ryan has never given a definitive answer to questions about his sexuality, he did tell Tyra Banks that he is a "metrosexual." He has been linked to several high-profile women, including Shakira and Teri Hatcher.

Ryan...if you are really interested in a woman to settle down with, I think you and Jennifer Aniston would make a great pair. If Marriage and Kids is what you want, I think the two of you will hit it off.
