How Reese and Ryan Met
Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon met at her 21st birthday party, after being introduced by a mutual friend. The couple co-starred in the 1999 film Cruel Intentions, following which, Ryan proposed. Reese and Ryan wed in June 1999. Their daughter, Ava, was born just three months after the wedding.
The News of the Divorce
On October 30, the story broke, with Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon confirming that their marriage of seven years was over. A representative released a statement saying, "We are saddened to announce that Reese and Ryan have decided to formally separate. They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time." The young couple has two children: Ava (age seven) and Deacon (age three).
Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon’s Careers
While the divorce will likely take time, both Witherspoon and Phillippe have plenty to keep them busy. Witherspoon won an Oscar for her role as June Carter in the Johnny Cash bio pic, Walk the Line, and will next hit the big screen in Penelope. Phillippe co-starred in the best-picture winner, Crash, and can currently be seen in Clint Eastwood’s film about WWII called Flags of Our Fathers.
