Early Rob Lowe Biography
Robert Hepler Lowe was born on March 17, 1964, in Charlottesville, Virginia. His parents divorced when he was a child. Rob and his younger brother Chad, also an actor, went to live in California with his mother.
In the late 70's and early 80's, Lowe went to Santa Monica High School, where he met his friends and future co-stars Charlie Sheen, Sean Penn, Emilio Estevez and Robert Downey Jr.
The Move to Acting
For Rob Lowe, biography details of his career begin in 1983, when he starred in a made-for-TV movie called Thursday's Child. Lowe played the lead character, Sam Alden, an active teen who discovers that he has a serious heart disease. Lowe earned a Golden Globe nomination for this portrayal.
After a few other movie and television appearances, Rob Lowe snagged his break-through role in the movie The Outsiders, which featured an amazing all-star cast including:

In 1999, well after breaking free from his teen heartthrob status, Lowe signed on for the cast of the drama The West Wing. Lowe played Sam Seaborn, who was at first, the lead character in the story. As the show progressed, however, Seaborn became more of a secondary character, due to the unexpected popularity of some of the other actors and characters.
Lowe stayed with the series until 2003 and returned for the final season in 2006.
More recently, Rob Lowe has starred in the drama Brothers and Sisters on ABC. He started out as a guest on the show, but fans loved his interaction with co-star Calista Flockhart and Lowe signed on as a regular cast member.
Sex Tapes and Controversy
Like most celebrities, Rob Lowe is no stranger to scandal. In 1988, someone leaked a sex tape featuring Lowe being intimate with two women, one an underage girl. The girl in question was only 16, but Lowe stated that he had no idea she was so young. Another tape showed Lowe and a friend having sex with a model in France. These leaks led him to seek treatment for sex addiction and alcoholism.
In 2008, Lowe once again found himself in the tabloids when he filed lawsuits against a nanny and other members of his personal staff. In these suits, he claimed the staff members had made false claims about him and his wife, stolen their property, had sex with third parties in the master bedroom while the family was away and overcharged them for food.
The nanny and others counter-sued, claiming sexual harassment and violations of the labor code. The courts eventually dismmissed all of the suits, but not before the entertainment rags could cover every imaginable angle.
Personal and Romantic Life
Rob Lowe has been romantically linked to several famous women, including:

In 1991, he married makeup artist Sheryl Berkoff. The couple has two children: Edward, born in 1993, and John, born in 1995.
