Regis Philbin to Undergo Triple Bypass Heart Surgery
From LoveToKnow Celebrity
Regis Philbin, the long-standing host of ABC television's Live With Regis and Kelly, was expected to have a triple bypass heart surgery on March 14, 2007.
Breaking the News
Phlibin, 75, reportedly told his audience during the March 12, 2007 show, "Well, listen, I gotta tell you something. ... I had been feeling chest pains, you know, and, uh, shortness of breath and all those little symptoms that you hear about." He said he got a second opinion but bypass surgery was recommended. "Darn it, I don't want to do it," he stressed.
The daytime funny man said he contacted his friend, late-night talk show host David Letterman, who himself successfully went through a similar surgery in 2000. Letterman urged Philbin to go through with the surgery. Regis' sidekick, Kelly Ripa said she would be there for her co-host's recovery.
