Well, that was fast – on June 7, 2007, just three days after entering prison, Paris Hilton was released from jail for an “unspecified medical problem.”
About Paris Hilton’s Jail Time
Originally, Paris Hilton was sentenced to 45 days behind bars after violating probation by driving with a suspended license -- privileges that were suspended as a result of a reckless driving charge from September 2006. Hilton was unaware that driving would break her probation, so the judge ordered her to serve 45 days in the Los Angeles County Jail.
Hilton’s jail time, however, was reduced to 23 days for “good behavior” (and reported overcrowding in the jail).
Reporting to Jail
Following an appearance at the MTV Movie Awards on June 3, 2007, Hilton reported to jail in the early hours of June 4. She was assigned to a cell in a “special needs” area because of her celebrity status. Tabloids reported that her first days were tearful, as Paris was only allowed one hour each day away from the confines of her cell.
Early Release
While Hilton was released from jail, she was not completely let off the judicial hook. Her jail sentence was to be served under house arrest for the original 45 day sentence she received. After her time in the L.A. County Jail (officials counted her early arrival and release as five days), her term is now 40 days at home, complete with ankle bracelet. Unfortunately for the heiress, the bracelet is not diamond encrusted, nor does it allow her to leave her palatial Los Angeles, California, home.
Update: Back to Jail for Paris
On June 8, 2007, Hilton was ordered to appear at a courtroom hearing to hash out her sentence, in light of the prior day's events. In the end, Paris was sent back to jail and prosecutors are attempting to hold L.A. County Sheriff’s officials in contempt for Hilton's early release.
