Owen Wilson Recovering From Suicide Attempt
From LoveToKnow Celebrity
Award-winning actor Owen Wilson is recovering in a Los Angeles, California hospital after what police have called an "attempted suicide."
The Incident
Owen Wilson, 38, who is best known for his roles in Meet the Parents, Cars and The Wedding Crashers, among many other movies, was taken to St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica, California on August 26, 2007, after police responded to a call at his residence. Official police logs report the incident as "attempted suicide." He was later transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
However, several media outlets have reported that Wilson has been depressed for several months. According to Fox News, Wilson had overdosed on some pills and slit his wrists after a fight with a close friend. He was found by his brother, actor Luke Wilson.
Wilson's Statement
Owen Wilson is asking everyone for privacy while he recovers. "I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time," he said in a statement.
Movie executives are unsure as to whether Owen Wilson's health will impede his career and movie promotions. He is starring in the upcoming movie, The Darjeeling Limited (due out in September 2007). Because of his recovery, it was announced August 29, 2007 that he has dropped out of filming Ben Stiller's new movie, Tropic Thunder. Other movies soon be released by Wilson include:
- Marley & Me (2008)
- Outsourced (2008)
- Drillbit Taylor (2008)
He lives in Santa Monica. He has previously been linked to actresses Kate Hudson and Demi Moore, but is currently not involved with anyone personally.
