Once best known as a member of 98 Degrees and Jessica Simpson’s hunky husband, Nick Lachey is now single and pursuing a career as a solo artist.
The Beginning
Although Nick Lachey was born in Harlan, Kentucky, he spent most of his childhood in Ohio. He attended high school at Cincinnati’s prestigious School for the Creative and Performing Arts.
After graduation, Lachey enrolled at Miami University in Ohio to study sports medicine. However, he soon realized he missed the excitement of performing. While on summer break, he accepted an invitation to join an up-and-coming vocal group in Los Angeles. Soon after, he dropped out of college to pursue his dream of a career in the entertainment industry.
Career
Nick Lachey rose to fame as a member of the Grammy-nominated band 98 Degrees. The band included his brother, Drew Lachey, classmate Justin Jeffre, and friend Jeff Timmons. They released four albums before taking a break to pursue solo careers. However, a spokesperson for the group has publicly stated that they intend to record another album together in the near future.
Currently, Nick Lachey has released two solo albums. His first effort, SoulO was released in November 2003 to poor reviews and was widely considered a flop. However, he had better luck with his second attempt. What’s Left of Me, released in May 2006, received the RIAA Gold certification after selling more than 500,000 copies domestically.
In addition to his musical career, Lachey has also dabbled in acting. His screen appearances have included the following:
- Movie appearances in Bewitched and The Hard Easy
- Guest roles in Twins, Charmed, and Hope & Faith
- Starring in television commercials for Axe deodorant
Personal Life
After dating for four years, Nick Lachey and fellow pop star Jessica Simpson tied the knot in October 2002. Shortly after their wedding, the couple signed a deal to appear together on the hit MTV reality show Newlyweds. The show quickly became a favorite among young viewers, who loved Nick and Jessica’s crazy antics and lavish lifestyle. Newlyweds aired from August 2003 to March 2005.
During their marriage, Nick and Jessica also worked together on two musical projects. They recorded a cover of A Whole New World for the Aladdin special edition DVD. Nick also made an appearance on Re-Joyce, Jessica’s Christmas album.
Although they were once considered one of Hollywood’s favorite couples, Nick and Jessica endured their share of marital problems—many of which were magnified by their highly public relationship. The couple separated in November 2005.
Since his divorce was finalized on June 30, 2006, Lachey has been enjoying life as an eligible bachelor. In recent months, he’s been romantically linked to Laguna Beach's Kristin Cavallari and Entertainment Tonight reporter Vanessa Minnillo.
