Nick Hogan Sentenced for Car Crash
From LoveToKnow Celebrity
Trouble continues to cling to the Hogan family as Nick Hogan receives his jail sentence.
The Accident
Nick Hogan was driving his Toyota Supra in a race with another car driven by Daniel Jacobs when the accident occurred. Hogan's passenger, longtime friend John Graziano, was in the front passenger seat as Nick lost control of the small car and hit a concrete median. The car then flipped and hit a palm tree. Graziano was not wearing a seatbelt. Both Nick and John were flown to a nearby hospital.
Nick was released from the hospital shortly after the accident while Graziano remained in critical condition, suffering from serious brain injuries. Graziano, a Marine and Iraq war veteran is not expected to recover from his injuries and reportedly will need life long medical care.
The Charges and Sentencing
At first, rumors circulated that 17-year-old Hogan was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Police didn't possess "probable cause" to charge him for a DUI as various reports stated that Nick didn't appear drunk at the time. Later reports read that he had a breath-alcohol level of .02 and was charged accordingly. The most serious charges for the youngest Hogan was "reckless driving involving serious bodily harm" and he was tried as an adult.
A Florida judge sentenced Nick to eight months in the county jail, 500 hours of community service after his release and he was ordered to complete alcohol awareness classes within one year of his release from jail.
The Graziano family filed a multi-million dollar negligence lawsuit in March 2008 against Terry and Linda Hogan, claiming, among other things, that they are directly responsible for the accident.
Comments
lala, we don't say he was under the influence when he crashed his car. His breath-alcohol level wasn't reportedly high enough for him to be charged with driving under the influence at .02, he is though, under the legal drinking age. His sentence included a DUI class and has forbids him to drink alcohol during his five year probationary period that begins after he has served his eight month sentence.
