Naomi Campbell Sentenced to Cleaning Floors
From LoveToKnow Celebrity
First Boy George and now, Naomi Campbell. After pleading guilty earlier in the year for reckless assault, the supermodel will spend five days mopping the floors of New York's Sanitation Department.
The Crime
Naomi Campbell's sentence, set to begin March 19, 2007, is court-ordered community service. In January 2007, she pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault for throwing her crystal-encrusted telephone at her maid, Ana Scolavino in March 2006. Scolavino required four stitches in her head because of the incident. Campbell was originally charged with second-degree assault.
The Time
Campbell, 36, who has a reputation for having a temper and being difficult to work with, was also ordered to attend a two-day anger management course and pay more than $350 to cover Scolavino's medical costs from the incident. People magazine reports that Campbell is "happy" to do the cleaning, and once it's over, she'll get on with her life.
List of Legal Troubles
This was not Naomi Campbell's first time facing the law. Her troubles include:
- In 2000, she pleaded guilty to assaulting her then-assistant with a telephone.
- In March 2005, her also then-assistant claimed Campbell slapped her and hit her in the head with a BlackBerry personal organizer. She accused the supermodel of assault, battery and false imprisonment.
- Another former housekeeper claimed in November 2006 that the supermodel was a "violent super-bigot."
Campbell also has publicly feuded with several celebrities, including fellow model Tyra Banks and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham.
Doing a Boy George
Campbell's sentence is similar to the one 1980s pop singer Boy George (George O'Dowd) received the previous year. CBS News reported that the former Culture Club singer was found guilty for filing a false burglary. When police showed up at his house, they busted him for cocaine found at his residence. He was sentenced to community service, which included sweeping up the streets of New York City.
