Morgan Freeman in Car Wreck

Actor Morgan Freeman is the latest celebrity to be involved in a car wreck this year.

Asleep at the Wheel

Freeman and a friend were traveling down a Mississippi highway when he reportedly began falling asleep at the wheel and started veering off the road. The actor fully awakened only to jerk the car back onto the highway in an attempt to correct the vehicle. In this attempt, reports state that Freeman overcorrected the 1997 Nissan Maxima, completely losing control of the car. The car then flipped several times before the ordeal was over.

Freeman's Condition

No word as to the extent of he and his passenger's injuries, but they were both air lifted to a local hospital. Preliminary reports state the Morgan Freeman was conscious, lucid and even cracked a few jokes with the rescue team despite the fact that they had to use the Jaws of Life to pry the 71-year-old actor from the car.

Authorities say that neither drugs nor alcohol was a factor in the cause of the accident. Luckily, both Freeman and his passenger were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. If they hadn't been, the accident would have most likely been deadly.

As to the reason why Freeman was traveling down south, well, he hails from Memphis, Tennessee and owns the Ground Zero Blues Club located in Clarksdale (considered the birthplace of the Blues), Mississippi. He and his have also have a home in Charleston.
