Marcia Cross Ordered to Bed Rest

Marcia Cross, who is pregnant with twins, has recently been put on bed rest. While not uncommon for pregnant women to have a physician’s order to take it easy, it certainly puts a wrinkle in a working actress’ life.
Marcia Cross’ Pregnancy
Marcia Cross married stockbroker Tom Mahoney in June 2006. Not long after, Cross was rumored to be pregnant. She first announced on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in October 2006 that she was carrying twins. In December 2006, she commented to People magazine that she was not having any problems with her pregnancy, saying that she was “100 percent fine.”
Her publicist announced on January 10, 2007 that Cross was ordered to rest in bed. "This is a precautionary measure only," spokesperson Heidi Slan told the Associated Press. No specifics were given about the actress’ condition, however, older women (Cross is 44) and those carrying multiples are often more likely to get a bed rest order than younger women.
Desperate Housewives
While Cross’ pregnancy was not written into the plot of Desperate Housewives, the series used some tricks to hide her growing belly so that her character, Bree Van De Kamp, never appeared to look different, despite Cross’ ever-changing body.
With this latest bed rest order, Desperate Housewives production will moving to the actresses’ Los Angeles home to film scenes with Cross. Her home will be transformed to look like the Van De Kamp’s house. Now that’s TV magic. According to tvguide.com, the actress was only planning to tape two more episodes of the series before taking maternity leave.
Golden Globes Nomination
Also, with the bed rest order, don’t expect to see Marcia Cross at the upcoming Golden Globes ceremony. She is nominated for Best Actress in a TV Series, Comedy or Musical.
