Mackenzie Phillips Drops Family Bombshells
From LoveToKnow Celebrity
Mackenzie Phillips drops family bombshells in her new book High on Arrival.
Famous Family
Mackenzie Phillips was a huge sitcom star back in the 1970s and 80s with the show One Day at a Time, but she also had a famous father. Phillips' dad was John Phillips of the famous 1960s iconic band, The Mamas and the Papas. The band is best known for their songs Californian Dreamin and Monday Monday.
Most of Mackenzie's problems of drug abuse were already pretty well known. She began using cocaine at the age of 11 and her father reportedly shot it up into her arm when she was a teenager. This led to her frequent drug abuse, rehab, relapse, rehab cycle. Her abuse also led to her being fired from One Day at a Time and various drug related arrests.
The Biggest Bombshell
The biggest family secret Phillips shared with the world, not only on Oprah but also in her book, is that she claims that she and her father had an incestuous relationship for 10 years. Her father was also an alcoholic and drug addict. He died in 2001, shortly after completing his new album Phillips 66.
Mackenzie's sister Chyna believes her story, while her stepmother Genevieve Waite, does not. Ms. Waite stated that "He was incapable, no matter how drunk or drugged he was, to have such a relationship with his own child."
Mackenzie's other siblings, Jeffrey, Tamerlane and Bijou have not commented on the book or what Mackenzie's relationship was with their father.
