Lindsay Lohan has been a fixture on the acting scene since she was just a small child. In recent years, her popularity has taken off thanks in part to her album sales and tabloid coverage.
Lindsay Lohan: A Star is Born
Lindsay was born in New York City and was blessed with entertainer genes: her mom, now her manager, was one of the famous Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall. Her father was a trader on Wall Street and the brains behind a multi-million dollar pasta company. The couple raised Lindsay in some of the most exclusive neighborhoods on Long Island, but she spent a lot of time in the city for her work.
Lindsay Lohan hit the ground running with a professional career at just three years of age when she worked for the Ford Modeling Agency. In the first few years of her life, Lindsay performed in over 60 commercials and print advertisements for companies like JELL-O, Pizza Hut, Toys "R" Us, and Calvin Klein. Her red hair and green eyes helped her stand out from other child actors, who were trying to fit the stereotypical idea of blond hair, blue-eyed children.
At the ripe age of 10, Lindsay found herself with a regular role on the NBC soap opera Another World. She kept the role for a few months until Hollywood came calling with the lead as both twins in the remake of the Disney classic The Parent Trap. This film helped put Lindsay Lohan on the map -- with both fans and critics, who recognized her role with the Young Artist Award for a Leading Actress.
Lindsay rounded out her adolescence with two made-for-television movies and a recurring role in Bette Midler’s short lived series, Bette.
In 2003, Lindsay played opposite Jamie Lee Curtis in another Disney remake, Freaky Friday. Lindsay also sang the film’s theme song. The following year, Lindsay was the lead in Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen.
Lindsay Grows Up
As Lindsay quickly outgrew Disney’s family films, she began looking for older roles that would help her reach new audiences. She found the right fit with Tina Fey’s Mean Girls. Lindsay played a newcomer trying to fit in with the “in crowd” at her high school, but later decided she would rather strip them of their popularity. The movie was a hit with adults and introduced a whole new demographic to Lindsay’s acting.
At about the same time, Lindsay began getting noticed as much for her physique as her talent. No longer the young girl in Disney films, Lindsay became a tabloid target and was hounded by rumors of eating disorders, excess partying, and fights with fellow actor Hilary Duff. Lindsay has been linked romantically to singer Aaron Carter, Wilmer Valderrama, and Leonardo DiCaprio.
In the past few years, Lindsay has been busy with several films, including Herbie: Fully Loaded, A Prairie Home Companion, and Bobby.
Lindsay’s Music
With a few movies under her belt, Lindsay decided to branch out into the music world. She released her first album, Speak, in 2004. The album went platinum and earned her an MTV music video nomination. Her second album, A Little More Personal (Raw), was released in 2005 and went gold but did little to win her new fans.
Not one to be discouraged, Lindsay is currently working on a third album, which is scheduled for released before Christmas 2006.
Accident Prone or Just Plain Clumsy?
Lindsay can’t seem to keep herself out of the public eye, especially with all of the medical attention she needs. In 2006, she was hospitalized for a wrist fracture, asthma, dehydration, and exhaustion. Her late night partying with pals Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie caused her to miss work for the film Georgia Rule, which prompted the movie’s production company to threaten her with a lawsuit. Lindsay’s family disputed the claim, but she did manage to finish the film without causing any further delays.
