Lance Bass and Boyfriend Call it Quits

The Relationship

Lance Bass, 27, and The Amazing Race contestant Reichen Lehmkuhl, 32, met when Lehmkuhl was Bass’s real estate agent. People magazine ran the exclusive story of Bass coming out. "I'm more liberated and happy than I’ve been my whole life. I'm just happy," Bass remarked during the interview. It was during the interview that Bass disclosed his relationship with Lehmkuhl, and the two were later photographed at many events together, including Lehmkuhl’s book release party. Bass said in the interview that they had been friends and then began dating for a few months prior to his interview.

The Split

Rumors began to swirl in August that the couple may have been on the rocks, but Bass said they were both “very happy.” Recently, Bass was seen at a party and the VH1 Big in ’06 awards without Lehmkuhl, causing many to speculate that their courtship was over. Bass’s manager confirmed to People magazine that Bass and Lehmkuhl had indeed ended their relationship.

The Outcome

No doubt this fairly high profile relationship has put Lance Bass back in the spotlight. He is working with fellow ‘N Sync band mate Joey Fatone to develop a sitcom pilot, where Bass will be playing a gay character. He also has a role in the upcoming film I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. Lehmkuhl has extended his fifteen minutes of fame on several reality shows, and was able to get more exposure during his relationship with Lance Bass. He penned the memoir Here's What We'll Say: Growing Up, Coming Out, and the U.S. Air Force Academy.
