Early Years

Kenneth Arnold Chesney was born and raised in Tennessee. He led a pretty traditional life, even struggling to make the school football team. During college in Jackson City, Tennessee, he performed in local bars and restaurants, but managed to keep his mind on his studies. After graduating from East Tennessee State University, Chesney headed to Nashville to chase his country music dream.

Music Career

Chesney's hit-making songs are a mix of ballads and upbeat, fun tunes.

Kenny Chesney signed with BMI in 1992, but he was not quite an overnight success. In 1995, he had his first top 10 hits with Fall in Love and All I Need to Know, but subsequent hits eluded him. Finally, in 1996, he scored the top five with Me and You, and a string of successful singles soon followed.

Kenny's music is an interesting mix of intensely sweet, insightful love ballads and fun, lighthearted sing-a-long songs. For example, the soulful Who You'd Be Today tackles the emotional issue of untimely death, while the silly She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy tells the tale of a country girl who, well, thinks his tractor's sexy. Some of Kenny Chesney's biggest hits include:

  • She's Got It All
  • The Good Stuff
  • How Forever Feels
  • I Go Back
  • Young
  • There Goes My Life
  • Big Star
  • The Woman With You
  • Anything But Mine
  • Living In Fast Forward
  • You Save Me
  • Beer in Mexico

Awards and Achievements

Kenny Chesney's sweet country sound and his barefooted, laid-back style have won him legions of fans. He was voted country music's Entertainer of the Year in 2004 and 2006. His other awards and achievements include:

  • People's Choice Award for Favorite Male Singer (2007)
  • Country Music Artist of the Year (2006)
  • ASCAP Voice of Music Award (2005)
  • Academy of Country Music's Top Male Vocalist (2003)

Personal Life

While his good ol' boy charm and singing style made him popular with country music fans, it was his personal life that brought him to the forefront of mainstream America. In May 2005, Kenny Chesney married Hollywood A-lister Renee Zellweger. The top-secret celebrity wedding was a shock to both Nashville and Hollywood fans, as no one even knew the two were dating. While the marriage was a shock, Kenny's infatuation with Zellweger was better known. He has mentioned in interviews that his song, You Had Me From Hello was inspired by Zellweger's famous line in Jerry Maguire.

Chesney's marriage to actress Renee Zellweger lasted only four months.

Fans barely had time to adjust to Kenny's removal from bachelorhood before he was back on the market. The couple split just four months after the wedding, citing "fraud" in their annulment papers. The fraud label instigated rumors that Chesney was a gay celebrity. Both he and Zellweger adamantly denied those allegations. Renee has said that fraud is simply a "technical term".

Chesney in Sports Illustrated

Although he struggled to make the high school football team, Chesney still managed to appear in Sports Illustrated. Of course, he appeared in a most unlikely issue: the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition 2007. Chesney appeared in a fun and flirty spread with model Marisa Miller. In the pics, Miller plays air guitar while Chesney looks on in amusement.
