Katie Couric Subjected to Digital Diet
From LoveToKnow Celebrity
You know the networks have gotten out of hand when they take a beautiful woman like Katie Couric and give her a digital slim down without her knowledge.
Good Enough for Primetime
Apparently Katie Couric is talented enough as a newscaster to go from co-anchoring the Today morning show for 15 years to take on the first female solo anchoring position for CBS in the evening. In fact, beginning September 5, 2006, she will be the first female solo anchor ever for any of the major television networks.
Unfortunately, the 49-year-old (born January 7, 1957) reporter's figure is apparently a little to on the full side for the network, so when they sent out press photos featuring Katie Couric in her new gig at the Evening News, they digitally trimmed 20 pounds off the anchor's figure.
Couric denies previous knowledge of the altered images as does CBS News President, Sean McManus.
What This Says About Us
What does it say about a country that has spent decades to fight for equal rights for women, only to require its newscasters to live up to the model-thin images that it expects from its entertainers? Male anchors, especially those who are icons in the field, are not held up to the same standards; nor should they be. The reporter's persona should fade into the background. The real "star" of any news shows should be – what a surprise – the news, the victims, the policymakers, and the other relevant figures and events that affect our lives.

So how do I do that to my own pictures?
