Kanye West Taking a Breather

After his VMA outburst, Kanye West is taking a breather from work for a bit.

Leno Announcement

West, along with Jerry Seinfeld, Rihanna and Oprah (via satellite), was among the first guests on his inaugural episode of The Jay Leno Show. West was reportedly only supposed to perform alongside Rihanna and Jay-Z, but asked Leno if he could say a few words.

Visible Contrition

If you didn't see the show, watch this YouTube clip of West talking to Leno about how he knew what he did was wrong. In a rare moment of contrition for Kanye, he actually looks as though he is really sorry for hurting Taylor Swift's feelings. The reason for his behavior? A bit of cognac, thrown with a load of grief from his mother's death.

The Fallout

West has received an almost unbelievable amount of bad press due to his VMA/Taylor Swift upstaging. It's crazy to a point where he may even be getting more beat up by the public than he did after his "George Bush doesn't care about black people" debacle.

Reason Behind the Break

West's mom Donda passed away in 2007 after experiencing complications from surgery. West and his mother were extremely close and since her unexpected passing, he claims that he has never taken the proper time to grieve his loss.

When Leno asked what Kanye thought his mama would say to him about his behavior, it really and truly looked like West was going to bust up in tears. He recovered though, said his piece and was done.

West went on to perform Run This Tow with Jay-Z (genius), Rihanna (sounded flawless). West, to his credit, sounded great as well.
