John Travolta Testifying
From LoveToKnow Celebrity
John Travolta is testifying, along with a reported 14 other witnesses, in the extortion case involving the death of his young son Jett.
The Extortion Scandal
In January of 2009, John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston's son Jett suddenly and unexpectedly died while the family was vacationing in the Bahamas. 16-year-old Jett reportedly suffered from Kawasaki disease which many believe led to his fatal seizure. The extortion case revolves around the behavior of the Bahamian paramedics, who were the first responders to the scene.
The Case
Though many of the details of the case are not known, it is based on the fact that one of the paramedics, Tarino Lightbourne, along with his lawyer Bahamian Senator Pleasant Bridgewater, threatened to make a medical form called a "refusal of transport" public. This document states the parties involved do not wish to seek medical treatment, in this case, for the care of their minor son. Authorities involved in the case say that no such document exists or may be in the possession of Lightbourne and has not been recovered.
Both Lightbourne and Bridgewater are accused of demanding the Travoltas pay them $25 million in exchange for the pair to not make the document public. Both parties have plead not guilty in this case.
Originally, there were three people accused in this case, the third being a Bahamian lawmaker and Travolta family friend, Obie Wilchcombe, but charges have only formally been brought against both Lightbourne and Bridgewater.
