Jessica Simpson and John Mayer were spotted together in New York City on New Year’s Eve. While both have previously denied that they are dating, this latest sighting seems to be proof that they may be more than just friends.

In June 2006, tabloids speculated that Jessica Simpson and John Mayer were together, but both denied they were seeing each other. Simpson even commented during an appearance on The View that they were just friends.

The latest gossip finds the two together in New York City at the Hudson Hotel’s VIP room. According to People magazine, the couple arrived together a little after 2:10 a.m. and spent 40 minutes together in a sofa nook, across from singer Christina Aguilera and her entourage. After that, they left together to go to a nightclub.
They were also seen having dinner on the Friday before New Year’s and were shopping together at Barneys on Saturday. They also enjoyed lunch together, where a People source said, "They were very flirty, obviously so engaged with each other.” Saturday night, they were seen at the Comedy Cellar.

Jessica Simpson started her career with modest popularity as a singer. Once the MTV reality show about her new marriage to Nick Lachey (Newlyweds) aired in 2003, Simpson became a household name. Simpson and Lachey divorced in November 2005.
John Mayer become popular in 2002, when his album, Room for Squares, produced hits such as Your Body is a Wonderland and No Such Thing. His sophomore album, Heavier Things, saw the release of the top 40 hit Daughters.
