Jerry Seinfeld Hamptons Car Accident
From LoveToKnow Celebrity
Jerry Seinfeld was in a serious car accident in the Hamptons over the weekend.
Brake Failure
Seinfeld was driving his 1967 Fiat on Skimhampton Road heading toward a major highway when the brakes on his vintage car failed. Reports state that Seinfeld swerved the small car to the right in an attempt to slow its forward momentum. He then pulled the emergency break, causing the car to roll over, eventually coming to rest on its roof. Seinfeld's car came to rest only a few feet before the busy highway. His wife and children were not in the car with him at the time.
Seinfeld's Quick Thinking
Police in East Hampton state that if it weren't for Seinfeld's quick thinking and action, the accident would have been much more serious for Jerry and for other drivers on the highway. Seinfeld walked away from the scary accident "without a scratch."
For the Love of Cars
Jerry Seinfeld is known for his love of cars. The comedian recently finished renovating his Manhattan garage -- a property he reportedly paid around $900,000 for in 1999. Reports vary on whether or not the garage is large enough to store his massive car collection that is said to include 47 Porsches 10 Boxsters, a 1955 550 Spyder (the same make and model car James Dean was driving when he crashed and died) and a $700,000 Porsche 959. The collection is now, of course, minus one 1967 Fiat.
Making Jokes
After the accident, police reported that Seinfeld was "…a little shaken up, with justification" after the accident. When asked to comment on the wreck, in true Seinfeld form he said: "Because I know there are kids out there, I want to make sure they all know that driving without braking is not something I recommend, unless you have professional clown training or a comedy background, as I do."
