Born in Houston, Texas and raised in Charleston, West Virginia, Jennifer is the middle child to Bill and Pat Garner and is one of the three Garner sisters. After graduating from George Washington High School in 1990, Garner went on to Dennison University in Granville, Ohio where she originally majored in chemistry. Realizing that she could no longer ignore the stage and screen calling her name, she changed her major to Theater, graduated from Dennison and moved to New York City to follow her dreams of being on stage.

Jennifer Garner's Move to the Big City

Shortly after moving to New York, Jennifer scored a low paying role as an understudy in the Broadway show A Month in the Country. Garner reported being so broke at the time that she had to "…roll up pennies to take the subway to Times Square." She wouldn't be a starving actress for long. Her first television role came soon, in the Danielle Steele television miniseries Zoya, where she played the role of Melissa Gilbert's daughter.

The Next Logical Step

Her next step seemed like the logical thing for an aspiring actress to do... move to Los Angeles, of course. While it is reported that her move to L.A. was to follow her boyfriend at the time, it really was fate, because it was there that Garner's career really began gaining momentum. It was while working as a restaurant hostess in L.A. that she landed the role as Hanna on the WB's Felicity, where, coincidentally, she met her first husband, Scott Foley.

Small Screen Boyfriends

Before Ben Affleck, before Sydney Bristow and before her soon to come starring film roles, Garner played the love interest of Scott Foley's Felicity character, Noel Crane. Soon after the two of them met, romance sparked and they were married in 2000. Unfortunately, the couple lasted a mere three years in wedded bliss and divorced in 2003. Shortly after the divorce, Jen started dating Alias co-star Michael Vartan. After about a year together, the two of them split as well. All was not lost for Jen though, as she would soon meet her future husband, Ben Affleck.

Jen Takes on a Different Role

Ben Affleck was so smitten with Jen, that on her 33rd birthday, he presented her with a 4.5 carat diamond engagement ring from famed jeweler to the stars Harry Winston. The happy couple wed on June 29, 2005 and welcomed daughter Violet Anne into the world on December 1st of the same year. Violet is the first child for both Jennifer and Ben -- and Garner is reportedly very happy in her new starring roles as wife and mother.

What's on the Horizon

Jennifer Garner

Even though Alias has been cancelled, Garner has kept plenty busy. Outside of her most important role as Violet's mom, here are a few films in which we will see the lovely Jennifer Garner in the future.

  • Plays the role of Vanessa Loring in the comedy Juno, to be released in theaters in January 2008.
  • Is on board for the film The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past with Matthew McConaughey. This movie is slated for release in February of 2009.
  • Has confirmed that she will be starring in the movie Be With You, slated for release sometime in 2009.

With her hard work ethic and natural down-to-earth charm, you can be sure that Jennifer Garner will be a fixture in film for years to come.
