How Much Do Celebrities Weigh
From LoveToKnow Celebrity
Gossip mags and celebrity watchers often wonder how much do celebrities weigh.
How Much Do Celebrities Weigh These Days?
It seems that any time a star gains a few pounds or loses a lot of weight, this news, usually accompanied by unflattering photos, hits the covers of tabloid papers and entertainment news sources. Are we obsessed with celebrity weight?
With the pressure to be thin and glamorous constantly on celebrities, it's no surprise that many celebrities actually do reveal their weight to the public. This is especially true for female celebs, who often come under scrutiny for weight gain. The problem though is that many stars lie about their weight or share their numbers only when at their peak.
As a result, a query on "how much do celebrities weigh" will often return variable answers, even for the same celebrity. Here are some of the stars and their weights that have been published recently.
- Mariah Carey – Anywhere from 107 to 160 pounds
- Cameron Diaz – 125 pounds
- Paris Hilton – 115 pounds
- Jessica Alba – Anywhere from 110 to 125 pounds
- Tyra Banks – 150 pounds
- Mischa Barton – 125 pounds
- Drew Barrymore – Anywhere from 102 to 140 pounds
As you can see, it's nearly impossible to know for sure exactly how much a celebrity actually weighs at any given time.
Notable Weight-Watching Celebrities
There are many celebrities who consistently find themselves under the media microscope due to their fluctuations in weight.
Oprah Winfrey
Oprah rose to the height of her stardom as an overweight woman and famously tried several different diets before hitting a comfortable weight. She recently gained weight and publicly admitted that she had tipped the scales at over 200 pounds, adding that she didn't even realize it was happening. She's back on a healthy eating and exercise plan to get back to her goal weight.
Anna Nicole Smith
Before her death in 2007, Anna Nicole Smith made headlines for both gaining and losing weight. Even at her heaviest though, Smith carried herself well and continued to promote her Playboy bunny image. After successfully losing the excess pounds, she became a spokesperson for the TrimSpa diet program.
Nicole Richie
Nicole Richie has been tabloid fodder for years and not only for her wild ways as Paris Hilton's BFF. Her weight plummeted to 90 pounds before she got pregnant, and even then she didn't seem to gain much. Matters were made worse by a leak of an e-mail she sent out to friends, inviting them to a party in which there would be a scale at the door and no one over 100 pounds would be let in. She claimed the e-mail was a joke, but it angered many people. Every time she goes out in public, there are photos and comments about her weight.
Jessica Simpson
Jessica Simpson famously gained at least 30 pounds and the media was quick to label her "fat." This caused a storm of talk shows and entertainment columns asking if the public was being too harsh on the singer/actress and other stars who struggle with their weight. Simpson responded by dropping the weight quite quickly, leading to more media coverage on her fabulous new diet of the stars.
Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian was the talk of the Internet when a series of photos from a shoot were published before being professionally retouched. The photos, when compared with the touched up versions, showed a bit more pudge than fans were expecting to see. Kardashian reacted well, however and explained that she's proud of her curves, but still working towards getting to a healthy weight through diet and exercise.
Our Obsession With Celebrity Weight
Even though many folks advocate for acceptance of any weight, it seems there will always be pressure on celebrities to be thin. As a culture, we have become obsessed with movie stars, television actors, models and musicians, with a focus on their appearance rather than just their talents. Celebrities these days have to accept the fact that the media will scrutinize, study and report on their weight.
