It's sad but true -- when actors, actresses, musicians and the like pair up and become famous Hollywood couples, everyone asks themselves, "I wonder how long they will last."

Long Lasting Hollywood Couples

Whether they are married or not, there are a few couples in Hollywood that have been together for years, decades even.

Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman – Newman and Woodward co-starred in the film The Long Hot Summer, which began filming in 1957. The couple married on January 29, 1958 and will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in 2008.
Tracy Pollan and Michael J. Fox – Pollan and Fox began dating in 1987 during the filming of Bright Lights, Big City. The two married in 1988 and have been going strong for 20 years.
Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell – These two have never married, but they have been together since 1982. Reports recently surfaced that their relationship was on the rocks, but the couple "laughed off" such reports and have no intention of ending their 25-year relationship.
Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins – Sarandon and Robbins are yet another on-screen love affair that turned into true life romance. The couple first got together when filming the 1988 film Bull Durham and have been together ever since.
Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks – Wilson and Hanks met while filming the 80's television series Bosom Buddies but didn't couple-up until they co-starred together in the film Volunteers. They married in 1988 and in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Hanks had this to say about his wife: "I'm a lucky man. Rita could have done better, but, you know, every now and again, you win the lottery."

Hollywood Couples Goin' Strong

With the divorce rate in the United States hovering at about 50 percent, being together for 10 years outside of Hollywood is no small feat. Being married for a decade as a Hollywood couple is an eternity. Here are a few couples that have reached this marriage milestone.

Felicity Huffman and Willam H. Macy – Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman and actor William H. Macy have been together for 10 years and have two daughters, Sofia and Georgia.
Iman and David Bowie – Somalian super model Iman met Bowie at a friend's house and a year after the meeting the couple was engaged. The two married in 1992.
Faith Hill and Tim McGraw – Sparks flew for this sweet southern couple when Hill was the opening act for McGraw on the "Spontaneous Combustion" tour in 1996. The two wed in October of that same year and have three children together.
Courtney Cox and David Arquette – Yet another on-screen romance that blossomed in to real-life true love, Cox and Arquette met on the set of the Scream films and married in 1999.
Jada Pinkett and Will Smith – Together for 10 years, these two are one of Hollywood's most loving and dedicated couples. Jada was quoted in USA Weekend as saying "I will throw my career away before I let it break up our marriage. I made it clear to Will. I would throw it away completely."

Young Hollywood Couples

These couples aren't necessarily young in age, but young in terms of how long they have been together. Only time will tell if they will turn into a 50-year Joanne Woodward-Paul Newman love story.

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck – Married in 2005, Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck live a seemingly normal life (by Hollywood standards) with daughter Violet.
Luciana Barroso and Matt Damon – Newly minted "Sexiest Man Alive" by People magazine, Matt Damon met Luciana Barroso while she was working as a bartender at a Miami Beach, Florida bar in 2003. The couple got engaged in 2005 and were married that same year at New York City Hall.
Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher – Introduced by mutual friends, this impossibly pretty couple began dating in 2003 and married in 2005. Demi has three daughters: Rumer, Scout and Tallulah with ex-husband Bruce Willis.
Christina Aguilera and Jordan Bratman – Bratman presented Aguilera with a five-carat diamond and platinum engagement ring in February of 2005 and the couple married in November of that same year. The two are expecting their first child together.

The Pressures of Hollywood

No one really knows why so many Hollywood marriages end in divorce or why so many couples break up when they seem relatively solid. A few oft given reasons are crazy schedules or the relationship succumbed to the harsh light of the paparazzi's constant spotlight. Seeing your husband or wife share an on-screen romance with beautiful leading men and women make it even more difficult to stay married in Hollywood. Couples like Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman have defied the odds and are a great example for young Hollywood couples that many hope will also defy the odds and stay together for years to come.
