Heather Locklear Formally Charged

DUI Investigation

In September of 2008, a woman notified the California Highway Patrol about a woman that was driving her car over a pair of sunglasses over and over again. The car was still in a parking lot at the time. Then, according to the witness, the driver of the car revved the engine and careened onto a California highway. The woman called the police, the car was tracked down and the driver arrested. The person driving the car happened to be Heather Locklear.

The police had given Locklear a breathalyzer, which she presumably passed due to the police stating that alcohol wasn't a factor in Locklear's behavior. They then had her perform a field sobriety test, which she presumably failed as she was arrested under suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance. They just didn't know what type of substance at the time. Figuring this out and deciding what, if any charges would be brought against the actress led to a nearly two month investigation by the L.A. district attorney's office. Ultimately, they decided to bring formal charges up against the actress.

The Charges

Locklear is charged with driving under the influence of drugs. Though the names of the drugs have not been revealed, the district attorney's office did confirm that they were prescription drugs for which Locklear had a valid prescription. Her arraignment date is set for January of 2009.
