The Lawsuit
Recently, a class-action lawsuit was filed against the Miley Cyrus fan club, MileyWorld. The suit alleges that fans were promised "access" concert tickets to Hannah's next show as a benefit of paying the $29.95 membership fee for joining the club. Representatives for the disappointed Miley fans whom did not get their hands on Hannah concert tickets claim that both Media Marketing and Smiley Miley Inc. knew that there were not going to be enough tickets to go around. Lawyers stated that this was a deceptive practice to get fans to pay the $29.95 membership fee.
Miley's camp struck back, stating that "over 70,000 MileyWorld members got tickets to the fan club." Representatives for Cyrus also commented that the website "…does not guarantee every member a concert ticket." A fact that is noted on the MileyWorld website.
The final issue in the law suit involves ticket scalping. Some parents reportedly paid upwards of $2,000 for tickets to the sold-out Best of Both Worlds tour. These exorbitant prices have led the Attorney General of Arkansas to open an investigation as to whether any ticket scalping laws are being violated.
Hannah as a Role Model
Many young pop-starlets have risen to stardom, only to be followed by much controversy. Britney Spears and Lindsey Lohan are now grown, but were once young, up and coming starlets and no longer hold role model status. Lindsay Lohan did make very kid-friendly movies, but her personal life was, to say the least, a train-wreck before she hit her twenties. As for Britney? Well, remember her very suggestive …Baby One More Time video when she was still a teenager? Enough said.
Love or hate Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus, there is no denying that she is currently a great role model for young tweens. She has a positive attitude, she and her music are far from suggestive (a la Britney Spears), she is focused, works hard and, even as huge as she is, she is well-loved by her close friends and family…including her siblings, which says a lot about her.
