Grey’s Anatomy Cast Member Denies Slur
From LoveToKnow Celebrity
Back in October 2006, Isaiah Washington of Grey’s Anatomy made headlines for making a homophobic slur about a fellow cast member. The dust settled, but things are heating up once again after Washington denied at the Golden Globes' press room that he ever made the comment.
The Incident
In October, it was reported that a fight broke out between Isaiah Washington and Patrick Dempsey, following Washington’s use of a homophobic slur about co-star T.R. Knight. Reports swirled that he would be fired from the cast of the hit medical drama, Grey’s Anatomy, but the cast and producers moved beyond the incident and all seemed well again.
The Fallout
As a result of the incident coming to the forefront, Knight, who was allegedly the recipient of Washington’s comment, told People magazine that he was, in fact, gay. He later said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that he felt it was important to come out in light of the incident, but probably would not have made it public if the comment had never been made.
Golden Globes Denial
Washington was asked about the homophobic comment in the press room following Grey’s Anatomy’s win for best drama. He denied the incident, saying “Never happened, never happened.”
Grey’s Anatomy Star’s Reaction
The press room comment didn’t sit well with T.R. Knight, nor with co-star Katherine Heigl. Heigl was interviewed by Access Hollywood at an after-party where she commented that she was “not OK with it” and that the comments were “hurtful.” She defended Knight, calling him her best friend and saying “I will use every ounce of energy I have to take you down if you hurt his feelings.”
