About Sheryl Crow
| ||||||||||
Sheryl Crow was born in Kennett, Missouri. She started her music career at five by learning piano (taught by her mother). By 13, she composed her first song. While receiving her bachelor's degree in Music Composition, Performance and Education from the University of Missouri, she started singing with the local band, Cashmere. After graduation, she worked as an elementary school music teacher during the day and performed with different bands at night and on the weekends.
Sheryl Crow made her move to Los Angeles, California, in the late 1980s, where she landed a job singing commercial jingles for McDonalds and Toyota. Around the same time, she also became a backup singer for Michael Jackson and spent the better part of 1989 traveling with the King of Pop on his Bad tour. She then started singing backup vocals for Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder, Don Henley, Sting and Foreigner. During this time, Crow was writing songs for Celine Dion, Wynonna Judd and Eric Clapton.
Her 1993 debut album, Tuesday Night Music Club, was a success, earning her several Grammy awards including Record of the Year. Since that time, Sheryl Crow has released nine additional albums and has received a total of nine Grammy awards, three American Music awards and one People's Choice Award, among several others.
Besides her musical endeavors, Sheryl Crow is also a political activist focusing her energy on global warming and international relations. In 2007, she adopted a little boy, Wyatt Steven, with whom she lives in Tennessee. She is also a breast cancer survivor, being diagnosed with the disease in 2006.
The Gossip About Sheryl Crow
When it comes to gossip, nothing is fair ground when you are a celebrity. Photographs and articles are constantly published about everything from who you are dating to where your children go to school -- and everything in between. Sheryl Crow is no exception. Many aspects of her life has been scrutinized in the press including her:
- Love life: She has dated several celebrities including Lance Armstrong, Owen Wilson, Kid Rock and Eric Clapton. Her relationship with Armstrong received the most scrutiny in the press because their split after a two and a half year courtship was completely unexpected. Some of the gossip mills state that Crow was testing Armstrong and thought the breakup would be brief. Instead, her plan backfired. The celebrity couple was engaged at the time of the split.
- Health: Just days after her split with Lance Armstrong, Sheryl Crow underwent surgery for breast cancer. While there wasn't a lot of gossip surrounding her ordeal, there is one website, Truth or Fiction that clarifies a rumor that Crow got cancer after drinking out of water bottles that were left out in the sun. After surgery and treatment, Crow has been declared cancer-free.
- Adoption: There hasn't been much gossip regarding the singer's adoption of a baby boy in 2007. The adoption was private.
- Role as an activist: Over the years, Crow has been outspoken regarding the war in Iraq, the environment, abortion and global warming. Because of her views, some of her concerts have been boycotted.
- Album credentials: Back when Sheryl Crow's first album was released in the early 1990s, she appeared on Late Night with David Letterman taking more credit for the album's production than she probably should have. Rumors over the years have stated that her band at the time was very upset with her saying they also deserved public recognition for the album. To this day, some of the band members have not forgiven her.
