Former Bachelor Winner Charged with Battery

Mary Delgado was a contestant on The Bachelor 6, and went on to win the heart of bachelor Byron Velvick (pictured above on right) in the finale. Delgado is a former NFL cheerleader; Velvick is a professional fisherman. The couple appeared together on the latest installment’s reunion show, The Bachelor 11: After the Final Rose.

It was hours after the reunion special that Delgado was arrested. The victim of her assault? Fiancé Bryon Velvick.

The Incident

Delgado was booked for "battery – strike or touch," a misdemeanor, by the Pinellas County Sherriff’s Office in Tampa, Florida at 12:35 a.m. on November 21, 2007. The arrest affidavit said, "Delgado punched her fiancé … and cut his upper lip, causing it to bleed." Alcohol was involved. She was released later that day.

During the reunion show, she and Velvick said they would be getting married soon. She also commented about her interest in his love of fishing, saying, "I love this man so much that I have fallen in love with the sport that he loves."

Life After Battery

So, what’s next for this couple? Will the battery incident sour their relationship or can a couple who met and fell in love on a reality show weather the storm and tie the knot? Hmm. Sounds like their life after battery is another reality series in the making.
