Final Curtain for Siegfried and Roy Show
From LoveToKnow Celebrity
The final curtain has dropped on the Siegfried and Roy show.
A Successful Run
The Siegfried and Roy show ran in Las Vegas for 13 years and is considered one of the most successful acts in Vegas history. The illusionists' act features many exotic animals, including the white Bengal tiger named Montecore that mauled Roy Horn in 2003.
The final act featured the pair dressed in skeletal masks and black robes. Horn, who was left partially paralyzed by the tiger attack, reportedly needed the aid of his longtime partner Siegfried Fischbacher on stage as they performed their various illusions.
This final performance at the Bellagio was a charity event in which the proceeds went to benefit the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health.
No Reason Given for Attack
The 2003 attack on Roy Horn happened in front of a terrified auditorium of people. Though there are a few different theories as to why Montecore attacked one of his owners, no one has a concrete explanation for the incident.
Some say the tiger sensed that Roy was having a mini-stroke and attempted to carry him off stage to safety, while others say that a group of women sitting in the front row were getting too close to the stage when Roy tripped and fell. Then, Montecore carried Roy off the stage again, in order to protect his owner.
The pair still reside in Las Vegas so they can be close to their animals' home - "The Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat" - inside the Mirage.
