Fall Out Boy on Ashlee Simpson

Some have been accusing Ashlee Simpson of contributing to Fall Out Boy's lack of Grammy nominations. Some are even comparing her to Yoko Ono.

Being compared to someone who is believed to be solely responsible for breaking up the legendary Beatles is a serious accusation and deserves a little more investigating. Starting at the beginning seems like a good place.

Pete is of course famous for being the eye-liner laden bassist of Fall Out Boy and Ashlee is famous for a couple of things: having a triple platinum album (Autobiography), for lip-syncing on Saturday Night Live and for being Jessica's little sister. Ashlee and Pete reportedly began dating in September of 2006.

The Grammy Factor

Fall Out Boy was nominated for a Grammy Award in the highly coveted "Best New Artist" category. John Legend ended up taking home the statue. Not much was said by the band about the loss, seemingly taking the "there's always next year" attitude. Well, 2007 Grammy nominations came and went, without a single Grammy nomination for the band. This time, Wentz was not so amicable and reportedly wrote a blog on the band's website titled "got bitterness? Vs. a revelation on true connection (and the award goes to)."

Wentz also stated that he woke up early to check to see which artists were nominated and upon not seeing his band's name on the list, says he "ended up breaking my foot on my computer." Bitter indeed. So, how does Ashlee fit into all of this?

Ashlee "Yoko Ono" Simpson?

A "pal" of the band reportedly told OK! magazine the Fall Out Boy's Grammy pass-over was due to Wentz's relationship with Simpson, stating that the band believes that "everything Ashlee touches is poison." Harsh. To put it in analogical form: Ashlee Simpson is to Fall Out Boy as Yoko Ono is to the Beatles? Not so much.

Fall Out Boy Defends Ashlee's Honor

Members of the band have come forward in Ashlee's defense, claiming that she is "nothing short of awesome" and her relationship with Pete has in no way contributed to their lack of Grammy nods, calling the very thought "(expletive) absurd." Absurd indeed.
