El DeBarge Jail Bound

Oh, The Music of the 80s

How can anyone forget such gems as "Who's Johnny?" and "Rhythm of the Night"? Even if you weren't into the poppy music of the 1980s, you can't help but remember El DeBarge. Not to mention, his brother James was once married to Janet Jackson…for a minute. Originally, he was in the band De Barge (creative, right?) with family members:

• James
• Randy
• Bunny
• Chico
• Peaches

The band was on the Motown label and enjoyed a good deal of success in the late seventies into the early eighties. El (real name Eldra) left the band in hopes of becoming a solo success.

Drug Abuse Issues

Anyone that lived during the 1980s knows that drug abuse was a rampant and growing concern among celebrities and regular people like you and me. El DeBarge was no exception. Here's a short list of his offenses:

• Domestic violence
• Vandalism
• Possession of a controlled substance…twice – cocaine and crack cocaine were his drugs of choice.

Recent Charges

The recent jail sentence stems from El getting busted, once again, for possession of a controlled substance. The singer was already on probation for an earlier drug charge and had a few outstanding warrants for his arrest. The judge handed DeBarge a two year prison sentence for his wrong doings. His legal troubles aren't over yet though, as he is awaiting his sentencing for hearing regarding yet another drug bust in 2006. On a side note, El's brother Chico was also recently busted for drugs..
