Eddie Murphy and Scary Spice

Murphy, 45, began dating Melanie Brown (a.k.a. Scary Spice) in the summer, following Murphy’s divorce from his wife of 12 years. Brown, 31, is now in her second trimester of pregnancy and believes “there is absolutely no question that Eddie is the father.”

Baby Denial

In an interview on the Dutch TV show RTL Boulevard, Eddie Murphy was questioned about Brown’s pregnancy. He publicly denied that he was the father of Brown’s unborn baby, saying they weren’t together any longer and that the interviewer should not “jump to conclusions.”

In response, Brown issued a statement on December 7 saying, "I am obviously upset and distressed at some of the comments made by Eddie Murphy to the media. I have no idea why anybody would want to conduct themselves in this kind of manner about such a personal matter in such a public way.”

Surprise Break Up

Eddie’s appearance on the Dutch show also signaled the end of his relationship with Brown, which came as a surprise to her. According to People magazine, she learned of their breakup from friends who had seen the interview.

The same evening she learned of the news, Murphy was seen at the premiere of Dreamgirls with Tracey Edmonds, ex-wife of singer “Babyface” Edmonds. According to Edmonds, the couple have been dating for over a month.

Other Children

Brown has a seven-year-old daughter, Phoenix, with first husband Jimmy Gulzar. Murphy has five children from his marriage to Nicole Mitchell.
