Surprising Announcement

Drew Carey,49, announced during the July 23, 2007 taping of Late Night With David Letterman that he was tapped to replace Barker. "They approached me right after I did the pilot for Power of 10 and I said no," Carey told Letterman. "A month later they called my agent and said, 'What if we really go after Drew?' We've been negotiating ever since." Carey said he found out 15 minutes before his appearance on Letterman's show that he got the new gig.

The Road to Stardom

Carey, a Cleveland, Ohio native, starred in his own television series, The Drew Carey Show, from 1995 to 2004. He also hosted the hit show, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, from 1998 to 2006. He originally started out as a stand-up comedian, getting his big break on The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson in 1991.
