From LoveToKnow Celebrity
Dr. Drew Pinsky, otherwise known as simply Dr. Drew, is a practicing medical doctor who specializes in addiction medicine. He has become a household name through a series of radio and television programs, and writing a number of self-help books.
Early Years
Dr. Drew was born David Drew Pinsky on September 4, 1958, in Pasadena, California. His mother is actress Helene Stanton, and his father was, at the time, a doctor. After graduating high school, Pinsky attended Amherst College in Massachusetts majoring in biology. From there, he returned to California to attend the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He graduated college in 1984 and served his residency at Huntington Memorial Hospital, where he continues to serve on staff.
Dr. Drew Pinsky on the Radio
While Dr. Drew was still in college, he was asked to co-host a call-in radio show to help answer listeners' medical questions. This show evolved into the nationally syndicated Loveline, which is still heard on over 100 radio stations nationwide. Loveline is geared towards guiding high school and college aged kids through their sometimes confusing relationship and sexual growth, and Dr. Drew makes it a priority to educate callers and listeners about protection against sexually transmitted diseases. In 2007, Dr. Drew took on another nationally syndicated call-in radio program based in Los Angeles, aimed at adult relationships and mental health.
Dr. Drew on Television and Film
In 1996, Loveline made the transition to television, airing on MTV. Dr. Drew's co-host was popular radio personality Adam Carolla, who added humor to the show. The show ran for five years.
Dr. Drew has had two successful shows on the Discovery Channel Health network, Strictly Sex with Dr. Drew and Strictly Dr. Drew. He's worked on the reality TV series Big Brother as a health and human relations expert, and made appearances on fun shows like Hollywood Squares and Celebrity Fit Club.
In 2008, VH1 launched a new reality show called Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, which brings in celebrities battling substance abuse and attempts to get them clean. The show is filmed at the Pasadena Recovery Center, and has featured celebs such as Daniel Baldwin, Jeff Conaway, and Rodney King.
In late 2008, MTV picked up another Dr. Drew Pinsky program called Sex with Mom and Dad. The show encourages teens to talk with their parents about issues that can be uncomfortable and open the lines of communication. Each episode features a different teen and his or her parents, as Dr. Drew guides them through the initial awkwardness of starting up such a conversation and assigns each family a variety of tasks to get them to open up.
Acting Roles
Dr. Drew has also tried his hand at acting. He's had a part in Dawson's Creek, and had roles in the movies New York Minute and Wild Hogs. His voiceover work appears in animated shows such as Family Guy, Robot Chicken, and My Gym Teacher's a Monkey.

Dr. Drew's experience working with celebrities combined with his high profile radio shows has made him the perfect guest on many television talk shows and magazine-style entertainment programs. He's been featured on:
